As an Ophthalmic Assistant, you will assist the perioperative team, surgeon, and clinical team in the clinic prior to, during, and after surgeries.

We are looking for Ophthalmic Assistant, who is willing to travel within the Metro area and state-wide. This individual will need to have a positive attitude with excellent interpersonal skills, face-to-face and over the telephone.

Do you:

  • Have a high degree of technical skill in caring for patients in an ophthalmic clinic or ASC environment
  • Feel comfortable interacting positively with physicians, nurses, coworkers, patients, and patients’ families
  • Are adept at making decisions based on established methods, policies, and procedures
  • Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work independently as well as function as an integral member of the ASC and clinic teams
  • Are physically able to stand for long periods of time as well as walk, bend, reach, push, and lift equipment and patients
  • Prior experience as an ophthalmic clinic assistant is preferred by not required. 

These are the kinds of things you can expect to do on a regular basis if you are chosen to join our team as an Ophthalmic Assistant:

  • Prepare perioperative suites and exam rooms, including gathering equipment and supplies
  • Obtain patient histories through interviews and intake assessments, making note of findings on patients’ charts
  • Have the knowledge and skills to use the following equipment: A-Scan, B-Scan Topographer, Phoropter, Tonometer, slit lamp, endothelial cell camera, Pachymeter, Lensometer, Keratometer, OCT for Macula and Optic Nerve Head, and Visante OCT
  • Maintain rooms, including cleaning as necessary
  • Interact with all patients using a high level of respect and professionalism
  • Attend communication meetings, in-service trainings, and educational opportunities
  • Must know how to scribe

Skills / Requirements

  • A high-school diploma or equivalent
  • Ophthalmic assistant training through the American Academy of Ophthalmology — JCAHPO
  • CPR certification
